| O besity has proven to be a destructive epidemic affecting our children, families, and healthcare system in the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan regions as well as the nation. Washington and Baltimore metropolitan area residents (includes Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, Howard County, Baltimore County, Baltimore, Northern VA and Washington DC) are invited to celebrate the healthy lifestyle by making the decision to commit to a 19+week "Healthier You,Fit Kids" Fitness Challenge.
T his Challenge will eminate from the annual "Healthy You, Fit Kids" Health & Fitness Expo which is in it's 6th year and is currently one of the largest wellness events in the region. These initiatives are an answer to the dilemma of how to create a community intervention that serves a larger number of residents and has a health impact beyond a one-day event.
T hrough this initiative we can work to motivate, empower, educate and provide accountability to residents as they strive to live a healthy lifestyle. Our goal is also to negate the statistics showing the tendency for residents to gain unhealthy weight at a higher rate during the holiday season. Through health & fitness coaching we intend to use proven strategies to instill self efficacy as we guide residents through proper stages of behavioral change.
W e are looking for Sponsors and Exhibitors that share our vision and wish to promote their healthy products and services to a diverse population of families (primarily adults aged 19-65)
